The Root Radical CSA vegetable share prices reflect the cost of local organic production and the excellent quality of food we produce. Our sliding scale exists to make high quality local organic food more accessible to people with lower incomes.

With the sliding scale, there are three options:

Full Share Half Share Double Share
1 Pay the suggested price $996

($41.50/week)

$498

($41.50/pick-up)

Farm Work is Valuable Work

Please consider that the people who grow your food are doing some of the most physically difficult and most essential work in our society.

At the suggested share prices listed above, your farmers (one person working full-time year-round and the other contributing part-time) will earn a shared annual income of approximately $20,000.

Farm Workers at Root Radical start at $16.55 per hour. Their wage increases incrementally and after 480 hours it is $20.60, which is the living wage for eastern Ontario (as of November 2023).

Our Root Radical Team Leads are paid between $21.65 and $24.05 per hour, depending on their experience and responsibilities on the farm.

Paying the Suggested Price or More

Please pay the suggested price, or more, if the following conditions apply to you:

  • You can afford it
  • Your personal income is higher than your farmer’s
  • You want your farmers to make a sustainable income

Paying on the upper end means you will be offering support to people who can’t afford the suggested price and/or you will be contributing towards improved farm infrastructure and a better income for the people who grow your food.

When the Suggested Price is not Affordable

If you can’t afford the suggested price you can subtract up to 25% from it.

Please prioritize paying as much as possible rather than prioritizing paying more quickly. Please see the Payment Plans below and consider whether paying monthly over six or nine months makes the price more accessible?

If it is feasible for you to pay a bit more by making the individual payments smaller and more spread out, please pay a bit more.

What you pay for your share is confidential. In the spirit of inclusion and trust, you will not be expected to justify or explain why you are paying the amount you have chosen.

Payment Plans

The three payment plan options are:

  • One payment: Pay in full when you register.
  • Two payments: Pay for half of your share when you register. Pay for the second half on or before July 1.
  • Six monthly payments: Divide your payment over six months. Make the first payment when you register. The remaining five payments are made on the first of each month of the harvest season (June 1, July 1, August 1, September 1 and October 1).
  • Nine monthly payments: Divide your payment over nine months. Make the first payment when you register. The remaining eight payments are made on the first of each month from April to November (April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1, August 1, September 1, October 1 and November 1).

If none of these payment plans suit you, please contact Emily or indicate your proposed alternate payment plan on the commitment form.

Solidarity Shares

If subtracting 25% isn’t enough, we offer a few Solidarity Shares at no cost. Apply here.
